Imbalance of social or physical power can lead to bullying, especially by school-aged children. The power to dominate others as well as feeling the power over people who are weaker has no age boundaries. The website ‘Bullying Statistics‘ (http://www.bullyingstatistics.org/) shows bullying & harassment is becoming a huge problem.
Wikipedia defines Bullying as “the use of force, threat, or coercion to abuse, intimidate, or aggressively dominate others. The behavior is often repeated and habitual.” Wikipedia continues: “Behaviors used to assert such domination can include verbal harassment or threat, physical assault or coercion, and such acts may be directed repeatedly towards particular targets. Justifications and rationalizations for such behavior sometimes include differences of social class, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, appearance, behavior, body language, personality, reputation, lineage, strength, size or ability.”
A few years ago, Gabriella van Rij approached us to translate her biography into several languages. Born in Pakistan and adopted by Dutch parents, her book With All My Might describes her growing up as an outsider. We were fascinated to read her story and also felt sad to read about the bullying she had to endure as a child.
Gabriella van Rij spends endless hours as activist for kindness against bullying; she attends talk shows and TV interview and speaks at assemblies in schools. She realized the need for a help book for children and educators to deal with the subject of bullying and wrote a new book. Her new book is titled I Can Find My Might; it is part memoir, part self-help book.
We were very thrilled that Gabriella von Rij asked World Translation Center to translate this new book. I Can Find My Might is now available in both Spanish and English.
The book is highly praised by parents and educators as a much-needed practical and empowering resource on issues that students are faced with daily; this is a perfect book—not only for the student who is feeling hopeless or helpless due to bullying at school, but also for those children who have bullying tendencies. It also covers issues ranging from social media to standing up for yourself and others. Download a free chapter here. Watch the book trailer here or buy it on Amazon.
